DUP leader Arlene Foster has defended her blocking of a Brexit deal by stating that a billion pounds doesn’t buy what it used to, not in this economy.
It seemed like Theresa May and Jean-Claude Juncker were on the verge of a Brexit deal when Arlene Foster told May she wouldn’t have her support. Without DUP support, May’s government would crumble.
Earlier this year, May amazingly found a magic money tree which she managed to shake in the direction of Northern Ireland and the DUP to the tune of a billion pounds for a ‘confidence and supply’ deal to keep the Conservatives in power.
But Foster is now claiming that one billion isn’t enough.
‘Have you seen what the pound is worth now? One billion doesn’t buy you as much as it used to and that includes DUP,’ she said.
And she has a point. On current projections, one billion pounds will only buy you seven Freddo Frogs by 2019 on the all-important Freddo Index.
