A man has been arrested and charged after being caught grooming a 6-year-old labrador to meet him at his local train station.
Rex Barker, 34, could face up to three years in prison if found guilty of inappropriately grooming dogs.
The labrador, which can’t be named for legal reasons, has been returned to her family safe and sound.
It’s believed that Mr Barker lured the labrador into meeting him with the promise of walks on the beach, squeaky balls and sausage treats.
‘This is a frightening incident which thankfully had a happy ending, although not the type of happy ending Rex Barker wanted,’ said D.I. Kay Nein.
Dog owners are being warned to keep a close eye on the the internet use of their pets as a result of the incident.
‘Online grooming is a huge problem, we urge dog owners to be ever vigilant,’ said Nein.
