Part-time dad Darren Roscoe, 31, woke up this morning with an intense feeling of dread and panic – only to remember that it is Friday, not Saturday, and that he wouldn’t have to look after his children until tomorrow.
‘I woke up with a tightness in my chest that you would not believe. I was sure that, in a matter of hours, I’d have to go pick up my kids from my ex-wife’s and look after them all weekend. Thank God it’s Friday though, my life is still my own for another day,’ said Darren.
This reaction is not uncommon amongst part-time dad’s such as Darren, although some PTDs do actually look forward to the time they get to spend with their children.
‘Seeing my children is the highlight of my week, I wouldn’t trade it in for anything,’ said devoted father Ben Everest (29).
‘Not me,’ replied Darren, ‘I just want some peace and quiet instead of those little brats running around the house. I work all week and I just want a couple of days to myself to have a few drinks and watch the football. Is that too much to ask?’
In a poll we ran on Daily Squat, 81% of the voters said that it was indeed too much to ask. Comments included people telling Darren to ‘man up and face his responsibilities’ and to ‘stop treating his children like a burden’.
