Man becomes the first American to correctly pronounce Worcestershire sauce

An American has made history today by becoming the first-ever of his kind to correctly pronounce Worcestershire sauce.

Hashim Merrill, 29, stunned his British friend by correctly pronouncing Worcestershire sauce on his very first attempt, a previously unheard of feat for an American.

“He absolutely bloody nailed it,” the British friend told us. “Most Americans don’t know when to put the brakes on when they say ‘Worcestershire’ – they end up saying ‘Wushchestershireire’ or something like that. Some of them even struggle with the word ‘sauce’, it’s a very simple country.

“But Hashim said it perfectly on his first try. An unbelievable achievement for the lad.”

For his correct pronunciation, Hashim has been granted British citizenship - should he want it – and a lifetime supply of Worcestershire Sauce.

A spokesperson for Lee & Perrins told us, “We’re shipping Hashim one bottle of the stuff as we speak.”
